(Updated: 01/2009) You may visit any of our 10 locations to obtain a marriage license. Both parties must have a valid id such as a drivers license, Id card issued by DPS, valid passport, resident alien card, or other government issued identification. The license fee is $71.00. There is a 72-hour waiting period within the State of Texas. This means the ceremony cannot take place the first 72 hours. The license is valid for 30 days and can be used in any county within the State of Texas. Effective September 1, 2008, if the bride and groom have completed an 8-hour state-approved premarital counseling program, the license fee is only $11.00, and the 72-hour waiting period is automatically waived. The bride and groom must present the certificate of completion to the clerk. You do not need to bring witnesses to obtain the Marriage license. If one person is unable to appear, an Affidavit of Absent Applicant is required.
